About the show
Comedian Jim David, known for his popular TV special Comedy Central Presents Jim David and this season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, will star in his one-man comedy SOUTH PATHETIC in August 2010 as part of the New York International Fringe Festival August 13-29, 2010. A 2009 hit at San Francisco’s New Conservatory Theatre, it tells the story of how a desperate out of work performer returns to his home state to direct North Carolina’s worst community theatre in Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire.” There he meets a host of eccentric characters, each at their own personal turning points, in the local theatre where all misfits are welcome. It’s a comedy of starting over, failure, and the need for arts in even the smallest community.
David plays himself as well as 10 other characters including a female “family values” crusader, a disgraced used car salesman, a stripper, an ex-porn actor, a high school nerd, a Bosnian refugee and others, and at the hilarious climax performs the opening night of this “Streetcar” in six minutes.
The show opened in 2009 at San Francisco's New Conservatory Theatre to rave reviews, and has also been presented at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, the Downstairs Cabaret Theatre of Rochester NY, the Theatre Workshop of Nantucket, and many others.
JIM DAVID has been featured on Comedy Central’s Comedy Central Presents Jim David, Tough Crowd With Colin Quinn, Out On The Edge, ABC’s The View, HLN’s The Joy Behar Show, NBC’s The Tonight Show and Last Comic Standing, Bravo’s Queer Eye and Greatest Things About Being…and many other shows. He is a three-time winner of the MAC (Manhattan Association of Clubs and Cabarets) Award for Outstanding New York Comedian and is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post. He performs stand-up comedy nationwide.
